We work with home and business owners around the country and one of the first questions they ask is “Why should I install an Acadia?”
As you’re probably aware, typical air source heat pumps lose their ability to heat your home when outdoor air temperatures drop below 30°F. At that point, they need to bring on supplemental heat which is usually in the form of inefficient electric resistance (also known as ‘electric strip’ heat) or a fossil fuel burner.
The Acadia does not require this supplemental heat, so you can continue to heat your home even when outdoor temperatures fall well below freezing using only the efficient refrigeration cycle. This is achieved through the use of our patented Opti-Cycle Technology. The Opti-Cycle Technology uses a second compressor in series with the main or primary compressor to ‘boost’ the system’s performance. When temperatures fall below 30°F, this booster compressor is engaged and we see a considerable jump in heat output while maintaining operating efficiencies of almost 300%.
Additionally, the energy efficient performance of the Acadia is such that there may be energy rebates and incentives available to you from your local, state and federal governments as well as from your electricity provider. There is a very thorough database of these incentives located here.
And what about cooling? Air conditioning with the Acadia is both effective and efficient. The primary compressor in the Acadia is the Twin Single compressor from Bristol Compressors. This compressor has the unique ability to run at half or full capacity, giving you multi-staged cooling. The system reads the thermostat to find out how far the indoor temperature is away from set-point and then it automatically engages only the most efficient mode needed to maintain your home at the desired temperature. This keeps your home comfortable without costing you a lot of money.
The Acadia is the only system you will need for your home, all year round. Gone are the days of having a separate heating and cooling system (or even of needing a backup heating system). There’s no longer any need for fuel lines, storage tanks, chimneys, oil trucks or potentially dangerous and harmful fuel in your home. You don’t need to be tied to the volatile and unpredictable oil market any longer. The Acadia is your one stop comfort solution.
The founding vision at Hallowell International could not be clearer: Think past the boundaries of conventional home heating and cooling solutions to create alternative approaches to residential climate management. Resulting concepts and innovation should always deliver products that are highly energy efficient, eco-friendly, easy to install and easy to maintain.
